MRAA, marina settles suit; Charleston show goes on

Charleston, SC-based Ashley Marina and Yacht Sales has reported an out-of- court settlement with the Marine Retailer Assn of America's boat show operations in a legal dispute over a change in site for the International In-Water Boat Show. The settlement involved a cash payment to Ashley Marina, the amount of which was not disclosed, and the provision of exhibit space at the exhibition's new location. The show will go on as scheduled from Apr 8, 1999-Apr 11, 1999, at Patriots Point and the Charleston Harbor Marina.

The Virginia Beach Fire Dept Fire Investigation Office's head Capt Stanley Foster has stated the cause of the fire that destroyed the Lynnhaven Marine Boatel is as yet undetermined. However, the investigators believe that the fire was accidental and declared that they found nothing to indicate foul play. The average value of the boats in the building is estimated at $50,000 while the building itself is approximately just below $800,000. Overall, damages could reach $25 million.
