Memo to architect threatens a writ
Article Abstract:
Architects who unfairly favour the employer by delaying certificates for payment risk legal action from the contractor. The architect, although not bound by contract to the contractor still has responsibilities in tort and should not take action which would damage the contractor. Contractors could sue architects if employers went bankrupt and the architects had been 'helping' the employers by delaying payments.

Liability between the lines
Article Abstract:
Contractors who fill in gaps in architects' specifications may find themselves liable if a fault occurs. In a recent court case, contractors Frank Haslam and M.J. Gleeson (Northern) were liable for using steel slag as hardcore when the architect had not specified what kind of slag. Steel slag caused the overlying concrete to split. The contractors were liable for 700,000 pounds sterling in repairs.
