OMC may alter dealer contracts on Internet ads

Article Abstract:

Outboard Marine Corp's (OMC) decision to sell small Evinrude and Johnson engines through catalog retailer Cabela's has upset OMC's dealers. OMC is also studying whether to implement changes to its dealer contracts for some areas such as advertising prices on the Internet. OMC, however, has changed some of its policies towards its dealers, such as allowing them to market tiller-steered outboards up to 35 hp.

Allied-Hatteras fight moves into arbitration

Article Abstract:

Allied Marine Group and Gemar Holdings Inc's Hatteras Yachts division expect to settle their differences in arbitration over the next few months. Allied has sued Hatteras over an alleged wrongful termination of a contract in which Allied was the Florida dealer of Hatteras products. The federal court, however, remanded the case to arbitration, saying any possible damage could be dealt with through the process.

Volvo jumps into legal assault on Brunswick

Article Abstract:

Volvo Penta of the Americas has filed an antitrust suit against Brunswick Corp at the US District Court in Norkfolk, VA, in Dec 22, 1998. The Chesapeake, VA-based company alleges that Brunswick has engaged in a wide variety of restrictive and exclusionary conduct in the mid-1980s by purchasing boat companies and imposing anti-competitive contractual terms. Volvo is seeking an unspecified amount of damages and wants the court to direct Brunswick to change its ways and shed boat and marine engine manufacturers it owns.
