Orkin spot propels company from roaches to riches
Article Abstract:
Customer calls to Orkin Exterminating's call center jumped from 68 in Feb 2000 to 4,309 in Mar 2000 after the company started airing its 'Fake Out' direct response TV spots. The 'Fake Out' ad is a spoof of a laundry detergent commercial, showing a woman folding clean laundry. A cockroach then crawls across the screen, followed by an Orkin exterminator, who kills the bug. TV viewers who call Orkin's 800 number are offered a bimonthly exterminating plan costing $60 per visit.
