Party pieces
Article Abstract:
The UK Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties all agree that the construction industry plays a key role in the country's economy. The Conservative party emphasises that it has created a sound economic basis on which the construction industry can enjoy a sustained recovery, and has committed itself to boosting the industry's competitiveness. The Labour party has promised to create an economic climate in which the construction industry will feel confident about investing, while the Liberal Democrats emphasise the need for new environmentally-friendly housing.

Why the general public is losing faith in politics
Article Abstract:
The British public voiced its disapproval of the government by voting against the Conservative party in the May 1993 local elections and the Newbury by-election. The government's majority is slim but with 31/2 years to go before the next general election it remains confident for its long-term survival. The Labour party has a difficult time ahead. It should not disclose its alternative policies too early as they may used by the government but if itdoes not announce new policies it will not attract enough supporters.

No let up in the Tory battle to recapture credibility
Article Abstract:
The UK government lacks credibility and future political upheaval is almost certain. The government has barely survived the devaluation of sterling, the recession and the coal mining dispute. Euro-sceptics and other factors, such as public spending cuts and the replacement of poll tax making many households financially worse off, threaten the survival of the government.
