State, fed postal laws hit sweepstakes
Article Abstract:
The enactment of the Deceptive Mail Prevention and Enforcement Act will have the greatest impact on advertisers and marketers who use contests and sweepstakes in their marketing campaigns. The provisions of the act specify mandatory disclosure requirements for promotions involving sweepstakes, the use of clear language and the prohibition of seals, insignias or terms related to any government agency. The act was implemented following a public clamor against deceptive mail promotions.
