Texas boating fatalities soar to 69
Article Abstract:
Texas boating officials reported that there were 69 incidents of boating- related accidents in 1997. The dramatic increase in the number of accidents, compared to 38 in 1996, was traced to speed and carelessness. State boating officials were puzzled since most of the accidents occurred under ideal boating conditions of calm waters, clear weather, light winds and good visibility. They speculate that 1996' mild weather led to an increase in boating traffic and contributed to the increase in fatalities.
