Megayachts dropping big bucks into the South Florida economy

South Florida is benefiting greatly from the growing popularity of big yachts. According to economist Thomas J. Murray, megayachts contribute $500 million a year into the region's economy. Repair and docking yards make money off the boats, as well as charter brokers. Overall, the US acccount for 34% to 36% of superyachts that are being built across the globe, said Kaye Pearson, organizer of the 1998 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Fractional ownership comes to megayachts

Monocle Yacht Management has introduced the concept of 'fractional ownership' for it's clients. Fractional ownership allows clients to use a yacht for a certain period, which they can either use for either personal purpose or lease it to outsiders. While clients enjoy their yacht ownership, Monocle takes care of the management responsibilities.
