Creative Good CEO Phil Terry has advised e-commerce site operators about the importance of making their Websites easier to use by prospective clients. Terry, a featured speaker at the first E-Commerce Customer Care Conference held in New York in May 2000, said that e-commerce companies are apt to lose $400 billion in sales over the next four years if they do not make the necessary adjustments to their Web sites. The conference was sponsored by the Direct Marketing Assn.

USA Today slams 21st Century's e-mail appending service
Article Abstract:
Twenty-First Century Marketing, a list management and brokerage firm, was criticized by USA Today columnist Elizabeth Weise for delivering unsolicited e-mail for its Epend service. Company President Schwatz asserted that there were misrepresentations in the article about the e- mail service, which combines e-mail names with offline information in customer databases. In the Nov 3, 1999, USA Today article, Weise commented on the service's tactic of guessing people's e-mail addresses and seeking permission to send additional e-mail.

Banks under privacy investigation by state AGs
Article Abstract:
A group of state attorneys general is examining how banks use private customer data. Specifically, the investigation would determine whether banks misled the public and violate federal privacy laws by sharing certain customer information with outside telemarketing companies. The most active of the attroneys general from about 25 states come from Illinois, New York, Connecticut, Florida, California and Vermont.
