Economic difficulties in Ukraine have led to around 10,000 construction projects being suspended. However, a number of UK construction-related companies have been able to establish a presence there. These include quantity surveying firm Baker Wilkins and Smith, which has been advising the Ukrainian government. More opportunities will start to emerge as outside investors take a greater interest in Ukraine.

Amec to fight hostile takeover bid
Article Abstract:
Norwegian shipbuilding and engineering concern Kvaerner has made a 202.2 million pounds sterling hostile takeover bid for UK construction and housebuilding concern Amec. The bid has been rejected, with Amec claiming that it substantially undervalues the company. Kvaerner has announced that it will sell off Fairclough Homes, Amec's housing subsidiary, if the deal goes ahead.
