General Motors Corp's 1990-1998 GMC Sierra Pickup models feature a revamped design and come in three series. These are the 1500 (1/2 ton), 2500 (3/4 ton), and 3500 (one ton). Models without flared rear fenders are called Wideside, while those with flared rear fenders are called Sportside. This generation provides advantages in terms of air bags and anti-lock braking systems in the later models, acceleration with V-8 engines, trailer towing capacity, visibility and passenger/cargo room.

General Motors Corp's 1990-1999 GMC Safaris are identical to Chevrolet Astros except for the names and series designations. They are truck-based, rear- or all-wheel-drive minivans featuring higher payload and towing ratings than their front-drive counterparts. This generation provides advantages in terms of air bags in the later model, anti-lock braking systems, optional all-wheel-drive traction, passenger/cargo room and trailer towing capability.
