How to find legal help: resolving a legal dispute can be a nightmare. And over a third of those surveyed have never even heard of ombudsman schemes
Article Abstract:
A survey of people who had a potential legal dispute found that over half did not seek advice on how to resolve it, and even those who did seek advice often did not follow it because of fears over costs. A step by step guide on how to find legal help is provided, looking at the sources of advice, such as solicitors, legal advice helplines, consumer advice centres, law centres and citizens advice bureaux. It also looks at how to take a claim further, through mediation, arbitration, conciliation and going to court. Help with costs can be gained through civil legal aid or legal expenses insurance.

Winning your legal battle
Article Abstract:
Most people who have resorted to legal action when disatisfied with goods or services have been pleased at the results. However, many other people did not bother to take legal action because they did not know the easiest path towards getting legal advice. Fear of high costs is a major factor and many people were unaware that cases involving sums less than 1k pounds sterling can be handled by the small claims court. The Citizens Advice Bureau is a good source of free information and use of trade arbitration schemes, watchdogs and ombudsmen can often avoid the need for court action.

Legal expenses insurance
Article Abstract:
It is worth having legal expenses insurance, which can be an inexpensive add-on to a car or home contents insurance policy. A standalone legal expenses policy costs more, but covers a wider range of events.
