Laser plain-paper faxes are suitable for large volume applications, with prices ranging from 799 pounds sterling to 4,995 pounds sterling. Most machines have a wide range of standard features and can be used as PC-faxes when linked to a microcomputer. A low-end best buy is the Brother MFC9000, priced at 949 pounds sterling. The 14,400 bps, multifunction laser fax is suitable for low-end applications. Paper capacity is 200 sheets, with a 30 page multi-file memory capacity. Other laser plain-paper fax machines are evaluated.

Article Abstract:

Fax machines have become an essential piece of office equipment and are set to become equally as popular in the home. The market is dominated by thermal faxes, with more than 80% of annual sales in the UK. Competition may come from PC-fax, but this will not affect the market in the near future. The advantages and disadvantages of thermal- and plain-paper fax machines are presented.
