Picking the right PC
Article Abstract:
Thirteen personal computers priced around 1,500 pounds sterling are tested, of which seven are considered best buys. The Apple Macintosh Classic, 930 pounds sterling, is considered good all-round if IBM compatibility is not a consideration. The Commodore 386/25C, 1,130 pounds sterling, and the Dell 325SX, 1,170 pounds sterling, give fast performance. The Laser 386, 1,170 pounds sterling, has a very fast hard disk. The Amstrad PC4386SX, whose speed is only average, costs only 900 pounds sterling, and the Tandon 386/N, 1,120 pounds sterling, is worth buying, if speed is not an important consideration.

Multimedia PCs
Article Abstract:
Ten multimedia microcomputers, ranging from 1,2000 pounds sterling to 2,100 pounds sterling are evaluated. Consumers should be aware that prices keep falling, however. After-sales service is an important factor to take into consideration as it can be problematic. The Dan Home Plus/SMM 133, which is sold only by Dan (UK), at 1,600 pounds sterling, a 133-based pentium computer, is particularly recommended. The Apple Performa 5320, at 2,100 pounds sterling, a Power PC on sale from a number of high street and mail order suppliers, is also recommended, although sometimes slow.
