Printers: with inkjet printers becoming faster, producing stunning graphics and high quality text, has the laser had its day?

Inkjet printers often produce better print quality than laser printers, and they are essential if colour graphics or photographs are to be printed. Most laser printers are faster than inkjets however, but are generally more expensive to buy. A report looked at a variety of inkjet and laser printers, considering print quality, speed, cost and convenience. The best buy inkjet printer was the Epson Stylus Color 400 at 230 pounds sterling and the best buy laser printer was the Panasonic KX-P6300 at 275 pounds sterling.

The Epson Stylus Color 440, costing some 110 pounds sterling, is a reasonably-priced inkjet printer suitable for home use. The printer is fairly fast and produces a good print quality. To print one colour page costs 0.25 pounds sterling. For monochrome printing, the Brother HL-1040, priced at 220 pounds sterling, is a fast laser printer and is unmatched for print speed and quality. Other printers are evaluated.

Three types of color printers were tested, inkjet printers, laser printers and portable printers and the best buys are the Canon printer models due to the features provided like high quality output in less time, ability to cope with a variety of types of printout such as text and photos and ease of use. The Epson printers are also recommended.
