Motorola's Timeport L7089 is a new three-band mobile phone which can operate on 900MHz, 1800MHz and 1900MHZ bandwidths, allowing it to be used internationally. It supports fax, data and SMS ability and has an infrared connection to PCs. Voice activated dialling is supported. Other mobile phones are evaluated in table form.

Cellular telephones available in the UK market were surveyed. The analogue handportables recommended were the Nokia 232, for its range of features and excellent sound quality, and the NEC P800 and NEC P8 for their features, large display and excellent battery power. The best buys in GSM handportables were the Siemens S4 Power, the Nokia 1610 and the Motorola MicroTAC 8700. The Analogue mobile recommended was the BT Emerald II, for its availability in three packages and excellent features. The recommended Orange handportable was the Ericsson er500, and the recommended One 2 One handportable was the Nokia 1620.
