Crustal structure in the Middle Urals: results from the (ESRU) Europrobe seismic reflection profiling in the Urals experiments

Article Abstract:

Three overlapping seismic reflection data sets were obtained in the Middle Urals as part of the Europrobe's seismic reflection profiling in the Urals initiative. This data has been used to address issues including the interpretation of the current crustal structure in the Middle Urals and its geodynamic evolution. It has been established that the bivergent crustal structures are the Main Uralian and associated faults in the west and the Trans-Uralian Thrust Zone and other west dipping crustal shear zones in the east. The major shear zones seem to be listric into and/or truncated by zones of middle to lower crustal reflectivity.

Crustal structure of the Middle American Trench off Costa Rica from wide-angle seismic data

Article Abstract:

Wide-angle experiments were conducted off Costa Rica using marine seismic sources of high shot density, ocean bottom hydrophones (OBH) and land stations for recording. Structural constraints from the coincident near-vertical reflection seismic survey and the coverage from closely spaced OBH have yielded detailed velocity depth distributions. These distributions reflect a high probability that the continental margin wedge off Costa Rica is an offshore extension of the Nicoya complex ophiolitic rocks.

Tectonic erosion and consequent collapse of the Pacific margin of Costa Rica: Combined implications from ODP Leg 170, seismic offshore data, and regional geology of the Nicoya Peninsula

Article Abstract:

Research investigating the implications of the collected data from seismic activities and regional geological characteristics to the degree of tectonic erosion in the region of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica is presented. Particular attention is given to usage of paragenesis data.
