Koolen metamorphic complex, NE Russia: implications for the tectonic evolution of the Bering Strait region
Article Abstract:
Geologic mapping was implemented in the Koolen Lake-Lavrentia Bay region of the Chukchi Peninsula, Russia to determine the relationships between deformation, metamorphism and magmatism in the metamorphic complex found in the study area. The severe deformation and synmetamorphic gneissic to schistose foliation with mineral elongation or stretching lineations observed in all the rocks suggested a north-south flow of deformation. The results further indicated that the formation of the structural/metamorphic culminations was due to the magmatic heating of the crust.

The Australia-Pacific boundary and Cenozoic plate motions in the SW Pacific: Some constraints from Geosat data
Article Abstract:
A three-plate model and Geosat data of the Pacific and Indian Oceans are used to calculate the finite poles of Australia-Pacific rotation. A new best fit finite pole for the finite prerift configuration of the Australia-Pacific plate boundary and refinement of Eocene-Miocene motions on the plate boundary are determined by the features identified on maps of Geosat data from the SW of New Zealand (GEOS-NZ results). The combination of the two results and the best fit rotation gives a much better model for the Asia-Pacific boundary.

Evidence for cenozoic crustal extension in the Bering Sea region
Article Abstract:
Crustal extension and spreading from island arcs have created portions of the oceanic crust in the Bering Sea as inferred from regional geologic and geophysical data. These geologic processes started to modify the abyssal basin since early Eocene. The approximated fracture areas as well as the arch in the basin are believed to date back to the early Cenozoic period. Models explaining the geologic processes that took place and modified the oceanic crust in the Bering sea over the past 55 million years are discussed.
