Mid-Cretaceous thrusting in the southern Coast Belt, British Columbia and Washington, after strike-slip fault reconstruction
Article Abstract:
Theoretical reconstructions of strike-slip faults help deduce the origin of thrusting in the southern Coast Belt, British Columbia. The dominantly south-west vergent, low to moderate angled thrust system led to a shortening of at least 250 km. Thrusting occurred about 80 to 100 million years ago as a result of rapid plate convergence and arc-continent collision. The relationship between magmatism and thrusting is studied. An attempt has been made to establish a genetic link between the southern Coast Belt and the North Cascades, Washington.

Plate deformation at depth under northern California: Slab gap or stretched slab?
Article Abstract:
Plate kinematic interpretations for northern California predict a gap in the subducted slab due to the northward migration of the Pacific-North America-Juan de Fuca triple junction. A model for the interaction between the three plates is suggested which is compatible with the observation. The 'slab stretch' model shows that the Juan de Fuca plate deforms by stretching and thinning.

Paleothermal structure of the Point San Luis slab of central California: effects of Late Cretaceous underplating, out-of-sequence thrusting, and late Cenozoic dextral offset
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the documentation of the paleothermal structure of the shale and sandstone turbidites of the Point San Luis slab dating from the Late Cretaceous to investigate the origin of the strata.
