A neglected controversy in the modelling of consumers' expenditure
Article Abstract:
There are a number of debates on the consumption function, and some accounts of research on the consumption function has been called 'stylized', since these debates are not mentioned. There has been a debate on cyclical characteristics of consumption started in 1946 by Woytinsky. Spanos' concern relating to variations in the marginal propensity to consume do not appear to be justified. Economists who study the history of applied economics should be aware of limitations constraining researchers at that time, and make judgements bearing those limitations in mind.

Time deformation in UK consumers' expenditure
Article Abstract:
Support for the durability-asymmetry hypothesis which was formulated by Cook, Holly and Turner was obtained. The hypothesis, which establishes a positive relationship between the durability of consumers' expenditure and the asymmetric behavior it manifests, was validated after Stock's diagnostic tests of time deformation was implemented on data involving consumers' expenditure in the UK. Time deformation was the most prominent finding for the durable component of consumers' expenditure.

The gradual response of cigarette demand to health information
Article Abstract:
Health information affected the market demand for cigarettes in the US. Data show that cigarette demand in the US declined gradually over a ten-year period as key health information were released. Consumers with high-risk discounting, higher levels of education and investments in health and lower levels of addiction exited the market after the awareness on the adverse health effects of smoking increased and smoking's social acceptability declined.
