A requiem for the USA: is small shareholder monitoring effective?
Article Abstract:
The United Shareholders Association (USA), which was founded in 1986 and disbanded in 1993, has succeeded in improving companies' performance and increasing their shareholders value through shareholders' monitoring. USA was also instrumental in the S.E.C.'s decision to allow shareholders to discuss corporate issues. Comparing USA's estimated expenses during its existence and the direct benefits it provided to shareholders, shows that it has succeeded in attaining its goals.
