A strategy for the post-crisis development of the Russian economy entering the next century
Article Abstract:
This article discusses possible measures for economic growth in Russia after the 1998 financial crisis; suggestions include the need to provide for production growth, a revival of the financial sector, restoration of stability, increasing investment through a stable reproductive environment, and solidifying the Russian position in the world economy through competitiveness in markets. Areas of concern for transition also include maintaining ecological, socioeconomic and demographic indicators in a dynamic equilibrium; the development of the technical and scientific sphere; and continuing production efficiency.

The financial crisis of August 1998: did Russia's middle class withstand the blow?
Article Abstract:
This article explores how the Russian financial crisis in 1998 effected the middle classes. Issues include an anlysis of socioeconomic indictators of 1997 suggesting the successful formation of a middle class, the importance of a middle class in implementing economic reforms, the economic strategies of the middle classes prior to the crisis in August including reasons for lack of monetary investments and savings, the deterioration of international market conditions and the dismissal of Viktor Chernomyrdin's government.

The defense industry of Russia: bottomed out?
Article Abstract:
An evaluation is presented on the economic viability of Russia's defense industry, with a comparison of production data before and after the Aug 1998 financial crisis. Proposed methods for salvaging the industry include structural revision of the industry and its management, specifically the reduction of state ownership and the adoption of a uniform program to implement reforms.
