Preparing (and not preparing) for the millenium bug: it could hit the region hard
Article Abstract:
A Worl Bank report reveals that several Middle East countries are unprepared for the Y2K, a shorthand for the year 2000 computer problem. The report shows that despite knowledge of the problem, several developing countries, including those in the Middle East, are not taking the necessary remedial actions. In a survey conducted by the World Bank, only seven of the 16 respondent countries in the Middle East had a national Y2K focal point and policy. The survey also reveals that only five Middle East countries, namely Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia and Yemen, had begun taking actions to solve the problem.
