Article Abstract:
Egypt will privatize an additional 94 state-owned companies in 2000, according to Egyptian Public Enterprise Minister Atef Obeid. Another 44 privatization deals, set for 2001, will result in the completion of the country's privatization program. Egypt, which has privatized a total of 132 state-owned businesses since 1995, has generated $3.43 billion from the program. The effort is a cornerstone of the country's economic reform package that was launched in 1991.
