Algeria tackles trabendo (contraband) imports
Article Abstract:
Algerian trabendo, or contraband, imports are being addressed in two ways with the implementation of two new laws. The first prohibits the importation of certain goods including clothing, fabric, rugs, carpets, yarn and shoes, which compete with domestic industry. The second is hoped to legalize other forms of trabendo by licensing the smugglers as importers and distributors, because the trade employs thousands of workers.
