Arafat at the Last Ditch

Article Abstract:

As a leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Yasser Arafat has failed to achieve either Palestinian land or a place to stay for the PLO. Against a background of real leadership problems, one positive image of Arafat has emerged, a symbol of unity. Arafat's golden opportunity, which he forfeited, was to join Jordan's King Hussein in acceptance of President Reagan's September 1982 plan for Israel. There are now two PLO movements, which hinder any efficient actions toward settlement of the Palestinians and their situation.

Step-parents in Great Britain will now have legal rights in regard to their step-children. Previously, they have held responsibilities without legal status. Step-parents now may receive custodianship status, which grants them a number of the parental rights of a permanent guardian.
