Banking on the future
Article Abstract:
Some industry observers believe that the banking system in Asia will not recover in the near future, but may worsen during the late 1990s, due to structural and economic weaknesses in the region. Many bank loans in Asia during the early part of the 1990s were of poor quality and are now not performing well. However, there is an attempt to strengthen commercial banks in Asia in order to provide liquidity and a flexible channel of funds to Asian businesses.

Tiptoe through the turmoil
Article Abstract:
Observers expect the Asian financial crisis will have less of an impact on the European electronics industry for several reasons. Inward investment percentages from the Pacific region are low compared to those from Western Europe and North America, and over-capacity in the semiconductor market caused many European investors to reappraise projects before the crisis began.

Currency concerns
Article Abstract:
The introduction of the euro, the new currency that will replace the individual currencies of 11 current European nations, will have widespread economic implications. The currency could eventually prove to be a strong challenger to the US dollar. The euro could also affect banks and businesses in the Asia-Pacific region.
