Bridging the gap between the public's and economists' views of the economy
Article Abstract:
Public opinion on current American economic condition differs from the perceptions of professional economists. Two surveys conducted to identify the differences in views revealed that the public evaluates the current economic status as worse than the previous years, while professional economists report an increase in real domestic product. The public also foresees an even more dismal economic future, while economists predict an elevation of the American standard of living. They also differ in their explanations as to why the economy is doing poorly.

Economists and White House decisions
Article Abstract:
A survey of past economic advisers that served in the Council of Economic Advisers exemplify the problems encountered by economists in economic policy-making. To be effective members of the US president's staff, an economist must learn to be a team player and focus on broad issues rather than fine economic points. Moreover, a coordinator who is not directly involved in policy-making is necessary for synthesizing policies into a workable framework.
