Come Home, Shareholder, Saudi Arabia Needs You
Article Abstract:
Oil producing countries in the Gulf region are attempting to attract private investment in their industries. Their two-part strategy involves the sale of large state-owned industries and the development of new means for private investment in domestic industries. The most tempting offer to date is Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sobic), the cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's petrochemical industry. The Saudi government is setting up a new company to encourage foreign partnership in joint ventures. Other offerings will be made in the next five years, including oil companies and utilities. Other Gulf states will pursue a similar course.
