Critical survey: Growth, trade and uneven development
Article Abstract:
The theories of growth and international trade are reviewed critically from the perspective of understanding persistent inter-country and inter-regional income inequality. Three separate literatures are considered to explain the income gap between rich and poor nations as they offer insights about international disparity.

A demand-led growth model, which endogenises the distribution of income, is presented. The central feature of interdependence of income distribution and capital accumulation is discussed.
