Cross-country determinants of mergers and acquisitions
Article Abstract:
The results of the analyses on mergers and acquisitions for the period 1990-2002, which examine the effect of variation in laws and regulations of countries on the intensity and the pattern of mergers and acquisitions, are presented. The results showed that countries having better accounting standards and stronger shareholder protection witnessed larger volume of mergers and acquisitions activity.

The effect of NYSE rule 118 on the ex-dividend day stock price is analyzed. Stock prices tend to fall on the day they are quoted ex-dividend.
