Detergents and laundry aids
Article Abstract:
The UK market for detergents and laundry aids was valued at 1.3 billion pounds sterling in 1994, up 38% since 1989. Volume sales for the period rose by only 3%, mainly because of the introduction of added value and concentrated products. Clothes washing detergents are the largest sector, with a 68% value share, followed by dish washing detergents and laundry aids. The clothes washing detergent market is forecast to reach more than 1.1 billion pounds sterling by 1998.

Detergents and laundry aids
Article Abstract:
The UK market for detergents and laundry aids grew by 8% in 1991-95, to 875 million pounds sterling. However, by volume the market declined by 5%, due largely to the emergence of concentrated products. The main growth areas are in the smaller sectors: the value of dishwashing detergents sales rose by 21% during the period, while fabric conditioners rose by 25%. The market is dominated by Lever Brothers and Procter & Gamble: by value, they control 65% of sales of hand washing-up liquids and 86% of sales of fabric washing detergents. There seems little evidence of widespread brand switching.
