Direct foreign investment and welfare in the transforming economies: the case of Central Asia
Article Abstract:
Foreign investment in transition economies, particularly that of a Central- Asian-type trade regime with practices of low import restrictions and high export taxes, weakens welfare. It is suggested, therefore, that these Central Asian economies should remove subsidies and improve their trade policies, thereby allowing direct foreign investment to come into the country.
