Union demonstrations in November 1983 against the Stockport Messenger print works became quite violent. At issue was the hiring of non-union workers. The National Graphical Association (NGA) wants a closed shop. The NGA refused to comply with court orders. A strike halted newspaper publishing for two days. The NGA is hoping for public support.
