Article Abstract:
Inter-state banks, such as Citicorp, now exist in the United States. Commercial banks are prohibited from serving as underwriters by the Glass-Stoagall Act. Many large United States commercial banks do act as agents for clients by privately passing papers to institutional investors.

United States regulators have proposed a new plan for the supervision of banking. A new federal banking agency will be formed to cut out simultaneous supervision by states, the FDIC, and the Federal Reserve System. Charts compare the existing and proposed organizations.
