Ethnicity and self-employment in Britain
Article Abstract:
Data from the General Housing Survey and the 1991 Census Samples of Anonymised Records were used to examine the ethnic aspects of self-employment in the UK labor market. The analysis focused on how push and pull factors cause ethnic minority groups to become self-employed. The findings provided strong evidence that discrimination is a major factor in ethnic minority self-employment, except for the Chinese whose average income is less in self-employment compared to their white counterparts.

Productivity growth in the UK regions, 1968-91
Article Abstract:
The estimates of total factor productivity growth for 13 industries in 10 UK regions from 1968-1991 are calculated. It will be shown that total factor productivity growth after 1979 was substantially higher in comparison to overall economic performance from 1969-1979. The peripheral regions generally did better in terms of economic performance than the core regions. Investments in human capital and technical change appear to be very influential factors linked to higher growth.
