Growth opportunities, corporate governance and the market value of multinational joint ventures
Article Abstract:
Market's price reactions to international joint venture announcements are greatly affected by the type of investment opportunity available. Data obtained from a sample of 320 joint ventures declared from 1987 to 1992 revealed that a positive effect to wealth is generated whenever the foreign partner involved in an international joint venture comes from an emerging economy. On the other hand, a neutral effect to wealth result whenever the foreign partner comes from an industrialized economy.

Research into alternative wage contracts is presented. The use of just-cause provisions in both standard contracts and deferred-payment contracts, and the extent to which they deter employer opportunism, is analysed.
