Health and sports drinks
Article Abstract:
The U.K. market for health and sports drinks experienced rapid growth between 1990 and 1994, and is expected to be worth 306 million pounds sterling in 1995, against 270 million pounds sterling in 1994. The health and sports drinks market has traditionally been based on convalescence, with few specialist energy drinks aimed at sports players. Until recently, the market was dominated by SmithKline Beecham's Lucozade brand, but many new specialist players have entered the fray, including Wander's Isotar. It is expected that the market will reach 326 million pounds sterling in 1996, rising to 475 million pounds sterling by 2000.

Article Abstract:
The UK market for sports drinks and nutritional supplements is worth an estimated 60 million pounds sterling in 1999. The market has expanded slightly ahead of inflation since 1994. There are many small specialist suppliers, and the market is therefore extremely fragmented. Market growth has been fuelled by the differentiation of sports drinks and energy drinks, with the sports drinks sector being worth around 41 million pounds sterling in 1998.
