Taiwan Fears the Friendly Dragon
Article Abstract:
President Chiang Ching-Kuo is likely to continue as head of the aging Taiwanese government. There are fewer middle-aged residents in Taiwan and not many choose a political career. President Chiang fears the loss of international support for Taiwan. Relations with mainland China appear better than they actually are. The Taiwanese believe that an autonomous government in Hong Kong will not be tolerated by the Chinese, following the British departure.
