Horizontal mergers: law, policy, and economics
Article Abstract:
The relationship between economics and the analysis of the social benefits and costs of a horizontal merger under the Clayton Act is studied. The possibilities of lower output and higher prices are the primary social costs of horizontal mergers, but economics offers few ways of evaluating the efficiencies of mergers. A merger policy that does not attempt to measure the costs and benefits of mergers offers significant benefits. Simple rules make enforcement less expensive and more predictable.

Feminist pedagogy: a means for bringing critical thinking and creativity to the economics classroom
Article Abstract:
Feminist pedagogy refers to teaching techniques that initially were used by feminists in women's studies programs. These techniques are designed to encourage students to think critically and creatively. Economics instructors can introduce feminist pedagogy into the classroom to encourage students to think as if they were economists. Feminist pedagogy fosters less hierarchical, more participative assignments in economics courses.
