Article Abstract:

Output is forecast to grow by 1.4% in 1995 rising to 2.5% for 1996. Problems faced by the Japanese banking system could undermine economic recovery. Bad debts have increased and banks are likely to be warier about lending and customers may be less enthusiastic about borrowing. The Japanese savings ratio looks set to fall, and growth is expcted to be slower in the medium term than in the past.

Article Abstract:
The Tankan survey showed a modest improvement in business sentiment while the equity market has performed relatively strongly in Japan.
