Macroeconomic effects of active labour market programmes in a union wage-setting model
Article Abstract:
The implementation of active labor-market programs affects both wage trends and the employment situation. Such programs are likely to result in greater participation and consequently greater employment of workers as well as the willingness to accept lower wages. This wage-reducing effect, however, does not happen if the possibility of layoffs is also reduced. The best target for such programs are the long-term unemployed not only because of the welfare effect but also because of the competition for jobs and the subsequent stabilization of wages it will generate.

Demand for local public spending evidence from the British social attitudes survey
Article Abstract:
Results from a British Social Attitudes Survey are presented to shed light on public attitudes about the demand for public expenditures. The demand for such public goods has been analyzed as sensitive to price changes and not as sensitive to income trends. Furthermore, the demand varies according to the particular economic and demographic situation of the respondent. The existence of central government grants may increase public demand because of the hidden nature of tax prices.
