An analysis of compensation in the U.S. venture capital partnership
Article Abstract:
The cross-sectional and time-series variations in compensation stipulated in venture capital limited partnership agreements are studied. Terms of compensation in 419 agreements and offering memoranda for funds from 1978 until 1982 have been examined. Organizations are compared with each other to find out how contracts change as firms mature. Results show that compensation for the older and larger venture capital organizations is more sensitive to performance. They are paid one percent of capital gains than smaller firms.
