Public and private partnerships in economic development: the role of the Alberta Economic Development Authority

Article Abstract:

The Alberta Economic Development Authority is a partnership between the Alberta provincial government and private groups that is formed to ensure the commitment of both sectors for the economic development of the province. The agency is tasked with the identification of policy directions for economic development as well as the strategic planning to meet such ends. The agency has already formulated its short-term economic goals, which include increasing annual employment growth, increasing exports and investments.

Evaluating the performance of an economic development program: the case of electric utilities

Article Abstract:

A study conducted by the Edison Electric Institute recommends that an electric utility consider four factors in evaluating its economic development program. These factors are: total effective net revenue contribution, return on investment, job creation and research on principal economic partners. The first factor entails six steps. Among the performance measures recommended are business attraction, retention and expansion.
