Oman's basic law of the state: a landmark enactment
Article Abstract:
The Sultanate of Oman has issued its first law which can be considered as a constitution or the basic law of the state. Sultani Decree 101/96 is effective on Nov. 6, 1996 and has seven parts. These include the nature of the system of government and the state's religion, the principles behind the political, economic, social, cultural and security policies, public rights and obligations, duties of the Sultan and the ministers, and the need to establish the Oman Council.
