Patent litigation as an information-transmission mechanism
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the implications of patent litigation and the ensuing information revelation on entry dynamics and the behavior of the patentee and potential imitators. A simple model of imitation with multiple entrants was developed whose basic premise was that patent litigation reveals important information which other potential entrants can use to their own advantage. Results suggest a rich set of predictions involving entry dynamics.
