Race and gender discrimination in bargaining for a new car
Article Abstract:
The nature of race and gender discrimination in automobile purchasing was investigated through 300 paired audits at automobile dealerships in the Chicago area. The paired audit technique is one wherein a pair of testers, one who was a white male, would bargain for a new automobile. While the evidence for race and gender discrimination was described as a robust result, it was suggested that discrimination towards women or blacks during negotiations were attributed mainly to dealers' attitudes on consumer reservation prices.

Gender differences in the allocation of assets in retirement savings plans
Article Abstract:
The role of gender difference in the decision of working men and women to invest in defined contribution plans was considered using data from the Surveys of Consumer Finances from 1992 and 1995. Existing queries state that women are more cautious than men in investing their retirement income in volatile ventures such as the stock market. Results indicate that investment patterns of women are also affected by marital status as well as risk management measures, and other assets apart from defined contribution plans.

Evidence on discrimination in mortgage lending
Article Abstract:
Statistical data show that race discrimination in mortgage lending is prevalent. A 1992 study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston provides hard evidence of discriminatory behavior by mortgage lenders against minority groups. That minorities are treated differently by mortgage lenders can be supported by variations in loan denial rates and loan default rates. Geographic redlining is another strong proof of discrimination in mortgage lending.
