Reforming Stabex
Article Abstract:
The Stabex scheme is part of the trade and aid relations between the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. It provides funds to ACP farmers when their country experiences a drop in export revenue. However, this scheme has been criticized and two suggestions are presented for reforming it. The proposals solve the two problems which have been determined with regards to Stabex: the possibility that fungibility erodes the targeting of Stabex funds and the Dutch disease effects which counter the value of these funds to the producers of export crops.

European monetary union and '1992': opportunities for Africa
Article Abstract:
Moves towards adopting a European Monetary Union may greatly improve Africa's deteriorating economic performance. The attempt at European integration may greatly alter the strict economic standards set by the Franc Zone, which grouped thirteen African countries into two monetary unions that make use of the CFA franc as their fixed currency. Thus, the idea of economic integration may in effect hold great promise at improving both the EC and African economies.
