Retaining downtown business via business succession
Article Abstract:
One of the reasons behind the marked decline of downtown business in many small towns across the country is the fact that many business owners realize that their children do not want to take over the enterprise. In most instances, the business owner simply sells off the remaining inventory and the real estate. A program is described where the community provides assistance for the sale of an existing business to an employee or other person willing to continue the business.

Using volunteers in economic development
Article Abstract:
Volunteers are highly useful to a non-profit organization, such as an economic development society, in the formulation of programs and the dissemination of information. The creation of an effective volunteer program necessitates a careful consideration of several factors among which are organizational structure and climate, program training needs, job design, motivation, and feedback systems for evaluation purposes.
