Simultaneous determination of home work and market work of women in urban west Africa
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze how women in urban West Africa allocate their time in determining home work and market work. A simultaneous Tobit framework of hours in market work and home work was utilized to carry out the analysis. The model integrated jointness in decisions concerning time in the activities and supported non-participation in either activities. Results indicated that years of formal education had non-linear effects on women's market labor supply. In addition, infrastructural factors have significantly influenced female time in such activities in rural areas in the country.
